Keizer, Oregon

Keizer, Oregon has spent much of its history fighting for independence. The city’s history stretches back to the 1840s and the earliest days of American settlement in what was then the Oregon Territory. For most of the decades since, however, the unincorporated area we now call Keizer had to fend off annexation claims by its larger Marion County neighbor, Salem. It was only in 1982 that a vote by residents combined unincorporated Keizer with nearby Clear Lake to create the city we know today.

Three decades later Keizer remains small – home to barely 35,000 people – and shares its minor league baseball team (The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes) with its larger, older neighbor, but has a distinctive identity all its own. The city is home to one of the country’s largest growers of irises, and hosts a festival showcasing the flower each spring. Summers are marked by numerous outdoor concerts and festivals (and, of course, minor league baseball). Though rural enough to retain its small-town feel Keizer is also close enough to Portland to be an easy commute, and to be served by Kaplan Law LLC from its office at 50 SW Pine St #302 in Portland, Oregon. Kaplan Law’s services are available to clients throughout Washington and Oregon. Call (503) 226-3844 to schedule an appointment.

Kaplan Law LLC specializes in personal injury law with a particular focus on injuries to children. In a community such as Keizer, where many families commute to work, such issues take on a special prominence.

According to statistics for 2010 compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration “injuries suffered in motor vehicle traffic crashes are the leading cause of death among children in the United States.” The government report goes on to note that children tend to suffer more serious injuries than adults in comparable crashes, and emphasizes the importance of “appropriate restraint” whenever children are traveling in vehicles. Head injuries, it notes, are a matter of “particular concern.”

Based on a nationwide study of over 630,000 crashes involving children the NHSTA highlights the importance that proper child restraints play in safeguarding kids during a crash. It states that while “the rate of child safety seat use in police-reported crashes” is 85% for children under one year of age, the rate drops to only 24% for four-to-seven year olds. It also offers dramatic proof of the difference that proper child safety devices make, noting that “incapacitating injuries” struck only 1% of properly seated and restrained children, but 7-8% of those not using proper safety devices.

Kaplan Law LLC’s special focus on injuries to Oregon children is designed to remind all parents of the need to act responsibly, both for the sake of their own kids and for the sake of everyone else on the road. Kaplan Law’s philosophy is that our legal system is a force for good that can help ordinary people attain the justice they deserve when tragedy strikes. Protecting children and their rights is always Kaplan Law LLC’s first concern.
